Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting is a profession which was introduced in the Burning Crusade Expansion. Players are able to make rings, trinkets, necklaces and more, as well as gems for socketed items. Special for any Jewelcrafters are figurines which are Bind on Pickup.

Jewelcrafting also allows a player to cut gems recovered from mineral ores (copper, iron, mithril, etc) via Prospecting. Each cut gem has a color type (red/yellow/blue), and certain socketed items have colored sockets and a bonus that can be activated if gems of the appropriate color are placed in all its sockets.

It's worth noting that, unlike Enchanting, you won't be able to apply Jewelcrafting to just any weapon or piece of armor. In fact, there are very few weapons and armor with gem slots.

Tailoring

Tailoring allows players to cut and weave various pieces of cloth into armor, bags, shirts and other cloth items. Tailors play an especially important role in guilds because they can create bags for the entire guild provided the guild members gather the proper ingredients. Tailors are responsible for creating cloth items for cloth-armor wearing classes: Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. They may also occasionally make items for other classes; cloaks for example. Tailors are also able to make special cloth equipment which requires that the user have a high level tailoring skill in order to use the item.

Skinning

Skinning allows players to gather leather, hides and scales by skinning certain mobs (beasts, dragonkin, Silithid, and, very rarely, humanoids). Not all mobs of each type can be skinned, e.g. birds cannot be skinned despite being beasts. Leather, hides and scales are used for leatherworking. Leather is also used for some blacksmithing, engineering, and tailoring recipes.

Leatherworking

Leatherworking is one of the primary professions. Your character can only have 2 primary professions at any time. The Leatherworking profession allows players to utilize the Leather gathered through the Skinning profession to create a variety of items, including cloaks, leather and mail armors, armor kits, quivers, and ammo pouches. The armor produced by Leatherworking is chiefly of use to the leather- and mail-wearing classes: the Druid, Hunter, Shaman, and Rogue.

Mining

Mining allows you to find and mine minerals, ores, and stones from resource nodes scattered throughout the world. It is one of the primary professions. Materials from mining and the items miners can create from them are reagents needed for recipes within other professions.
